The e-commerce company has invested more than 700 million euros ($751 million) in installing over 1,000 new technologies across its European fulfillment center network in the last five years. These technologies help employees by reducing walking distance, eliminating repetitive motions, and assisting with heavy lifting. This, in turn, allows employees to learn new skills, competencies, and capabilities that help them progress in their careers. La Rovere noted that over 700 new categories of jobs have been created through the use of technology.
He highlighted the Amazon robotics and AI team as an example, which focuses on bringing automation to fulfillment centers to streamline the packing and delivery process. Additionally, Amazon promotes a video titled “Factories are heading for a ‘dark’ future — and it’s not what you think.”
