Snapdragon X Elite, Qualcomm’s flagship computer chip, is set to debut on laptops from top brands this year. The chip has been seen in a benchmark test, with a potential Surface Laptop 6 outperforming Apple’s MacBook Pro models in one CPU test. Reports suggest that Microsoft may unveil Surface laptops with Snapdragon X Elite chips at a hardware event in May.

The Surface Laptop 6 appeared on Geekbench without an official name, powered by a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset with 12 cores running at 4.01GHz. Although not the most powerful variant, the chip’s performance exceeded that of Apple’s M3 MacBook Pro in multi-core tests. If the benchmarks are accurate, the Snapdragon X Elite chip on the rumored Surface Laptop 6 is expected to be faster than Apple’s M3 chip.

Microsoft has not confirmed plans to release new Surface models with Snapdragon chips, but there are reports indicating confidence in the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6’s ability to outperform Apple’s latest 3nm processor. More information on these devices is expected to be unveiled at Microsoft’s upcoming hardware event in May.

Qualcomm’s flagship computer chip, the Snapdragon X Elite, is expected to arrive on laptops from popular brands this year. A benchmark test listing for the purported Surface Laptop 6 on Geekbench suggests that Microsoft’s upcoming Surface laptop could outperform Apple’s MacBook Pro models powered by its latest M3 chip in one CPU test. The Surface Laptop 6 was spotted on Geekbench, listed with a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset at 4.01GHz with 12 cores. The benchmark results show that the Snapdragon X Elite chip on the Surface Laptop 6 has a single-core score of 2,714 points and a multi-core score of 14,078 points, placing it ahead of Apple’s 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro in multi-core tests. If genuine, the M3 chip should be 13.37 percent faster than the Snapdragon X Elite on the rumored Surface Laptop 6, while Qualcomm’s chip is shown to be 15.4 percent faster than the M3 MacBook Pro due to having more cores. Microsoft is rumored to launch Surface laptops equipped with Snapdragon X Elite chips at a hardware event in May and is reportedly confident that the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 can outperform the latest 3nm Apple Silicon processor. More information on these rumored devices is expected to be revealed at Microsoft’s upcoming hardware event.
