Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, was present at the Inaugural AI Insight Forum in the Russell Building on Capitol Hill on Sept. 13, 2023.

Nvidia, in collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology, has introduced the first AI supercomputer intended for student use. The supercomputer is powered by Nvidia’s graphics processing units, which are essential for the creation of large language models by OpenAI, Alphabet, Meta, and other startups in the generative AI space. Nvidia’s revenue has soared in the past year, surpassing the market cap of Alphabet and Amazon.

This initiative aims to democratize access to supercomputing resources, typically reserved for tech giants and startups. It highlights the importance of training the future workforce in AI. Initially, only undergraduate students at Georgia Tech will have access to the computing cluster, supported by Nvidia’s enterprise AI software and a “virtual gateway” developed by Penguin Solutions.

The supercomputer has been utilized in Georgia Tech’s machine learning foundations class, with plans to expand access to all undergraduate and graduate students by spring 2025. This move follows OpenAI’s recent partnership with Arizona State University to provide access to ChatGPT Enterprise for coursework, research, and more.

Georgia Tech’s supercomputer features 20 Nvidia HGX H100 systems with 160 H100 GPUs, highly sought after in the tech industry. Students will leverage the supercomputer for projects in various fields, including computer vision, robotics, supply chain management, and generative AI-related pursuits. The goal is to provide students with the computational resources to explore their entrepreneurial ventures and academic interests.

Overall, the collaboration between Nvidia, Penguin Solutions, and Georgia Tech aims to create a supportive environment for students to conduct their work. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to fostering innovation and advancement in AI education.
