Huawei recently unveiled the Pura 70 series on its official website in China. This new line of smartphones is part of Huawei’s strategy to regain momentum in the Chinese market and rival Apple. The Pura 70 series replaces the previous “P series” and showcases Huawei’s growing confidence in the face of past U.S. sanctions. Last year, Huawei quietly released the Mate 60 with a high-end chip, sparking concerns in Washington.

The new phones in the Pura 70 series include the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro Plus, and Pura 70 Ultra, each with different starting prices in China. Huawei has seen a 64% increase in smartphone shipments in China, while Apple’s iPhone sales have declined by 24%. This resurgence by Huawei poses a challenge to Apple, especially in the same price range.

The phones in the Pura 70 series come with premium features, such as textured backs, large screens, and advanced camera capabilities. They also run on HarmonyOS 4.2, Huawei’s proprietary operating system developed after being cut off from Google’s Android due to U.S. sanctions. Although the specific central processing chip used in the devices has not been confirmed, speculations suggest the use of a Kirin 9010 processor, an upgrade from the Kirin 9000s used in the Mate 60.

Huawei’s latest smartphone offerings represent the company’s comeback in the Chinese market and its direct challenge to Apple with competitive features and prices.

Huawei launched the Pura 70 series on Thursday, replacing the “P series” of devices. This move shows the company’s growing confidence after facing sanctions from the U.S. in recent years. The new smartphones have seen a 64% increase in shipments in China while Apple iPhone sales have dropped. The Pura 70 series includes four devices with prices ranging from 5,499 yuan to 9,999 yuan, directly challenging Apple in the same price categories. The phones come with premium features, including a textured back, triple-lens cameras, and HarmonyOS 4.2. The central processing chip inside the devices has not been disclosed, but rumors suggest it might be a Huawei-designed Kirin 9010 processor. Huawei’s comeback in the smartphone market is evident with the launch of the Pura 70 series.
