Amazon is resuming construction on a 42-story office tower in Bellevue, Washington, after 22 floors sat unfinished since 2022. The company paused work on several towers in Bellevue, as well as new offices in Virginia and Nashville, due to uncertainty around the pandemic. However, Amazon has since required employees to be in the office at least three days a week.
The first half of the 42-story office tower in Bellevue, named “Sonic,” has already opened, with space for over 1,000 employees. Once completed later this year, Sonic will accommodate more than 4,500 employees in total. Amazon is also expanding its office space in Bellevue, with plans to hire 25,000 employees in the area.
In addition to the Sonic tower, Amazon has opened other buildings in Bellevue, including Dynamo and the “Bellevue 600” project, a 43-story tower with 1 million square feet of office space. Despite resuming work in Bellevue, some of Amazon’s other office projects, such as the second phase of its Virginia campus, remain halted.
