The next-generation BMW X2 differs significantly from its predecessor, even though it is built on an updated version of its predecessor’s platform.

Although it is still based on the front-biased UKL architecture shared with the 1 Series, X1, and Mini range, the 2024 BMW X2 has evolved into a more coupe-like vehicle, reminiscent of the larger X4 and X6 models.

The new X2 has grown in size compared to the previous model, offering more passenger and cargo space. It has even surpassed the X1 in dimensions.

One major change is the introduction of an all-electric iX2 variant, which is covered in a separate review.

The base model, the 2024 BMW X2 xDrive20i, is part of the Australian media launch drive event. It is priced at $75,900 plus on-road costs, slightly higher than the equivalent X1 model.

The interior of the X2 closely resembles the X1, with high-quality materials and practical design. It features the BMW Curved Display with a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen, running the latest Operating System 9.

The X2 comes equipped with various digital features, a voice assistant, 5G eSIM, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The front seats are comfortable and offer various adjustment options.

The rear seats, though slightly affected by the sloping roofline, still provide adequate space. The X2 features a spacious boot area with folding rear seats for increased cargo capacity.

The X2 xDrive20i is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

Driving the X2 xDrive20i is enjoyable, with a good balance of performance and comfort. The vehicle offers a sporty driving experience with good refinement and handling characteristics.

Safety features include driving assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. The standard specification of the X2 xDrive20i is extensive, with optional packages available for further customization.

Overall, the BMW X2 xDrive20i offers a compelling blend of performance, refinement, and style, making it a strong contender in the compact coupe SUV segment.
